Great Perfection, or Dzogchen, is considered the most direct path to awakening in the Nyingma lineage of Tibetan Buddhism. This radically direct approach points out the mind’s fundamental nature of luminous purity. Once this nature has been recognized and experienced, problems and negativity automatically dissolve, leaving the open space of pure awareness, in which the qualities of enlightenment spontaneously unfold.
Garap Dorje was one of the first masters of the Great Perfection lineage. His final teaching – Three Words that Strike the Vital Point – is one of the most important teachings on the Great Perfection. These pithy instructions offer clear guidance on recognizing the mind’s innate purity and making this recognition a living experience through repeated familiarization.
Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche gave this series of teachings on the Three Words at Tergar Monastery in 2011. Basing his explanations on a famous commentary by Patrül Rinpoche, Mingyur Rinpoche discusses Great Perfection practice, sharing his own insights and the precious instructions he received from his teachers.
