Description

A Public Talk with Edwin Kelley (Cancelled as of 2/13/19)

Love is such an important ingredient for living in harmony with others and nurturing our own wellbeing. Yet, it can elicit a wide range of emotional feelings and mean different things in different circumstances. On this Valentine’s day, Tergar Instructor, Edwin Kelley, will talk about love as understood within the context of Buddhist practice and explore the ways in which our love can free us from, or bind us to, suffering.

Edwin Kelley first became interested in Buddhism in 1975 when he attended a meditation retreat near Perth, Australia. In 1992 he went to Burma to undertake a six-month period of intensive retreat with the renowned meditation master Chanmyay Sayadaw. While practicing in Burma he ordained temporarily as a Theravada Buddhist monk. In 1994 he was hired as Director of Operations by one of America’s best known meditation retreat centers, the Insight Meditation Society (IMS), in Barre, MA and later was appointed Executive Director of IMS. Edwin has a post graduate diploma in Buddhist Studies from the University of Sunderland in the UK. He moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota with his wife Myoshin in 2009 to help establish the global Tergar Meditation Community. In addition to his work as an instructor, he currently serves as co-executive director and is a board member for Tergar International.

This public talk is freely offered by the Tergar community. We are deeply grateful to our community members, who generously offer their time, energy, and financial contributions to make this possible.

Registration is not required, but appreciated for planning purposes.
